Student Removals in Bournemouth: BU & AUB Move Guide

Student moves in Bournemouth are usually smaller than a full house move, but the timing can be less forgiving. Accommodation slots, keys, lifts, parking and term dates all need to line up.

This guide is for Bournemouth University and Arts University Bournemouth students moving into halls, private accommodation or a shared house. It uses university and council guidance, but your own course and accommodation instructions take priority.

Confirm your real move window

Do not book from a general term-date summary alone. Check your enrolment, course and accommodation messages, then confirm the earliest arrival time, key-collection point and whether you have a timed unloading slot.

BU’s official preparing-to-move guidance is the starting point for university accommodation. AUB publishes its official term dates; for 2026/27 it lists induction from 28 September to 2 October and teaching from 5 October for many undergraduate programmes. Dates vary by programme, so use the record for your course rather than treating those dates as universal.

There is no honest fixed answer based only on “student move”. The load, stairs, walking distance and time window determine the practical crew and vehicle.

Plan campus and accommodation access

Ask the accommodation provider exactly where a removal vehicle may stop and how long unloading is allowed. For private flats or houses, send a photo of the nearest legal stopping place and note any permit signs, narrow entrances or long carries.

BU’s 2026 student parking update says there is no student parking at Lansdowne Campus and that restrictions apply at Talbot Campus. That does not by itself answer where a move-in vehicle may unload, so follow the specific arrival instructions for your building and do not assume campus parking is available.

For an address in Bournemouth, use our moving-van parking and access guide alongside the current BCP Council permit information.

Pack for a room, not a warehouse

  • Check what the accommodation already provides before buying or moving duplicates.
  • Use boxes you can safely lift and label each with your name, building and room.
  • Keep ID, enrolment details, keys, medication, chargers and one change of clothes with you.
  • Protect portfolios, instruments, monitors or specialist course equipment and tell the mover what is fragile.
  • Measure any furniture against doors, stairs and the room before transport.
  • Ask the mover in advance about items it cannot accept; do not hide batteries, chemicals or other restricted contents in sealed boxes.

Shared-house moving checklist

Agree with housemates which belongings are personal and which are shared. Put one name on shared appliances and furniture so the mover receives one clear instruction. Record meter readings and photograph the condition of your room and communal areas at the agreed handover point.

For council tax, household composition and student status can affect what action is needed. Use BCP Council’s official moving and council tax page rather than relying on a housemate’s previous arrangement.

Moving out without last-day panic

BU’s end-of-term checklist advises students to pack, remove rubbish, deal with bins, return keys, close utilities where required, and keep inventory evidence or photos. Work backwards from the inspection or key-return deadline, not merely the final night you plan to sleep there.

  • Separate belongings for the new address from donations and rubbish.
  • Book transport only after confirming access and key times.
  • Use council or authorised waste routes for unwanted items.
  • Leave enough time for cleaning and a final photograph of the empty room.
  • Keep the landlord or accommodation emergency number available on move-out day.

If several unwanted items need removing, read our Bournemouth house clearance guide before choosing a collector.

What to include in a student-move quote

  • Both postcodes and the exact building or hall.
  • Move date plus the confirmed collection and arrival windows.
  • Floor numbers, lift availability and walking distance from the vehicle.
  • A box count and photos of furniture or specialist equipment.
  • Who will help at each end and whether packing is required.
  • Any building, campus or landlord access instructions.

If the list is not final, say so. A quote can only match the job when the inventory and access information match moving day.

Frequently asked questions

How early should a student move be booked?

Book once your accommodation slot and keys are confirmed. High-volume arrival and departure periods leave less flexibility, but an unconfirmed date is not a reliable booking instruction.

Can a man and van move me into halls?

Often, if the load and access suit that service and the accommodation permits the vehicle to unload. Send the building instructions before accepting the quote.

Does Hintz offer student storage?

This guide does not advertise a storage service. Ask about the transport you need and arrange any third-party storage directly under its own terms.

Can unwanted furniture be left beside communal bins?

Do not assume so. Follow your accommodation or landlord instructions and BCP Council waste guidance. For a paid collector, check waste carrier registration.

A useful quote starts with six facts

Postcodes, date, time windows, inventory, floor or lift details, and parking instructions. Send them through the Hintz contact page for a written student-move quote.
